The Energy Primary Flight Display was the subject of my MSc Thesis at Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.. The underlying idea was to integrate energy management information with the Tunnel-in-the-Sky display. Energy management has been identified as the mediating control goal based on the fact that the available controls allow the pilot to directly act on the aircraft's energy state and not on the speed and altitude goals. Presenting the pilot with the energy state information could increase energy awareness leading to more effective control during the approach. The principles of Ecological Interface Design have been used throughout the design process leading to a display that should support the pilot on all levels of cognitive processing. The following screenshots show the resulting display further described in the thesis.
